Funding

 

Thanks to the successful Arts Council ‘Grants for the Arts’ support of £14,995 and the support of Cllr Mark Smith & Cllr Ian Coleman who donated £1000, Blackpool BID £250, Left Coast £150 gave support in exchange for advertising on the main map and £250 was donated from Raw Photography studios as a contribution to the equipment costs.

 

The largest amount of support came from the festival organisers- Creative Arts & Futures who gave in excess of £2500 in cash support and over £4000 worth of in kind support to the festival. With all this support, the festival was able to run successfully, all be it on a very tight budget.

 

As a benchmark for ‘full cost recovery’ the festival really needs to raise around £1000 per artist / artwork to cover costs of materials, accommodation, travel, co-ordination, workshops etc which gives extremely good value for money on the end product.

 

“To buy just one piece of 1metre x 1metre artwork from a top international artist would cost £1,000’s and would not even be questioned if they were commissioned or funded by a gallery, and yet a 10metre x 10 metre piece of art transforming a building in Blackpool centre has only cost £371.00. Something needs to change in how urban street art is funded and perceived”

Support

 

As well as financial support we also received support from Sainsbury’s, who provided some drinks for our celebration event on the Saturday night, The Winter Gardens who provided a venue for our opening night of Questions & Answers with the artists & the public, and the Pleasure Beach provided free passes for artists to use over the weekend.

 

Also, the greatest level of support came in the form of volunteers who worked 100’s of hours over the course of the festival, and The Old Rock Factory, Celery Studios and Creative Arts & Futures Shop and Offices who provided space and a base to work.

 

Also, special mention has to be given to Blackpool BID who were instrumental in helping with some of the logistics involved in the event.

 

As well as in-kind support a great deal of negotiating and discounting of services and supplies came from local accommodation providers, paint suppliers and hire companies helping us to realise the project.
