The festival in 2016 was managed and delivered by local youth arts education charity- Creative Arts & Futures and David Hirst a freelance events manager who successfully wrote the ACE funding application and supported it with over £4000 of in-kind support.
The festival officially ran over the weekend of 29th-31st July 2016 and was deemed by Robin Ross and the trusty followers, to be the best one ever!!
“It was the best it’s ever been run and every element of the organisation of the festival
was covered impeccably. David did an amazing job co-ordinating everything with
support from John Allen & Michelle Minett, it was a dream team!”
However, due to the size of some of the walls the first artist arrived on 24th July and the the last artist finished on 4th August making the whole event run over 10 days.
Also, this year saw the inclusion of 3 days of workshops for local children and young people which culminated in them designing artwork and painting them on a 35ft x 22ft three storey photography studio on Charnley Road with local artist ‘Infected by Design’.
Over the course of the festival we hosted 35 Artists and created over 50 new pieces of art across the town. The stunning line up came from as far a field as Cyprus, Switzerland and Portugal as well as our home grown talent.
The line-up this year included:
Bane, Pest, Smile, Dale Grimshaw, My Dog Sighs, CZEE 13, Dank, Lowdown, Nomad Clan, Osch, Seca One, Infected by Design, He Dreamt Mars, Catch 22, Jay Sharples, Akse P19, Tank Petrol, Julian Kimmings, God’s Flesh, Stina Jones, Andy Council, Pawski, DOC, 20/20, D7606, C3, DoodlesnDrips, Danzig Razor, Famous 4:15, Donna the Puddle and Tangerine Art.
“Thanks to Dave, John & the Team this was the best Sand Sea & Spray ever!! We artists were treated so well, accommodating & feeding us and dealing with our diva moments, thank you”
